Sphere of Influence

What people seem to want is the capability to influence the future in a manner producing more desirable outcomes than those currently. Identifying and executing on the change from and change to value variance between the current state and a more desirable future state is why leaders get into strategy, strategic planning, and strategic management. It seems like what the people leaders serve want is a whole lot more upside on that value variance equation these days.

The SI 2 Sphere of Influence is a simple model to reference what is adjacent to the core mission as is of whatever it is any given organization or individual thinks has to be done; and how it has to be done and when.

Along with workshopping the Purpose, Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Communication aspects of the essential difference made by a new initiative — whether the initiative scope is a discrete project, program, or up to an entirely new venture that can be a business, nonprofit, or government agency — using The Way Model within SI 2 Dynamism; the SI 2 Sphere of Influence and then Center of Gravity Structuring with Maneuver (COG-M) Model allow for the divergence / convergence work of finding a new high value strategy; and then a strategy statement to excuse on.

Working with others across the nation in the SI 2 Lab and expanding what we know as a group of Strategy Innovators allows us to cope with everything headed at us (Strategic Innovation Frontier) — and then the unknown and current highly unpredictable, or predictable as to more and more undesirable outcomes, future (X Factor Future) — creates a list of new possibilities and a network of folks who are willing and more able to shape the future with a new Sustainable Value Creation platform: SI 2.

Check out the Sustainable America Engine (SAE) example of how the Sphere of Influence is a simple tool to Do New. Agreed SAE sounds like a sustainability oriented version of local engine of economic development… and environmental, social, and governing sustainability. It takes Strategy Innovators to do new.
